Shore Fishing on Folly Beach

Shore fishing on Folly Beach offers a unique and relaxing way to enjoy the coastal environment. One of the standout locations for shore fishing is the Morris Island Lighthouse Trail. This area is not only known for its stunning views but also its reputation as a local secret for catching a variety of fish. The waters between Morris Island and Folly Beach create a natural funnel, making it a hotspot for fish activity.

Morris Island Lighthouse Trail

The Morris Island Lighthouse Trail is a perfect spot for anglers who enjoy fishing from the shore. Access to this area is straightforward, with nearby parking available, allowing you to easily bring your gear. As you walk the trail, you’ll be greeted by the iconic lighthouse, a historic guide that adds to the charm of this fishing spot.

Fishing here offers the chance to catch a variety of species, thanks to the unique water flow. The funnel effect forces fish to swim through, increasing your chances of a successful catch. This spot is ideal for those seeking a peaceful fishing experience away from the crowds.

Best Baits and Techniques

When it comes to shore fishing on Folly Beach, using the right bait and techniques can make all the difference. Here are some tips to improve your fishing experience:

  • Cast Nets: Great for catching bait fish like mullet. These can be used to attract larger fish.
  • Mullet and Frozen Shrimp: These are popular choices for shore fishing. Mullet is especially effective for attracting larger predators, while shrimp can entice a variety of species.
  • Bottom Rig: This setup is ideal for targeting fish that dwell near the ocean floor. It’s simple to use and effective for catching species like flounder.
  • Sand Fleas: Often found along the shoreline, sand fleas are a natural bait option. Fish like red drum and pompano find them irresistible.

Popular Fishing Charters

Charleston Fishing Charters and Sea Breeze Charters are two of the most popular options for fishing charters on Folly Beach. Both offer a range of trips custom to different fishing experiences, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Inshore Fishing: Ideal for families and beginners, inshore fishing trips focus on the calm waters closer to shore. Here, you’ll have the chance to target species like redfish and trout. These trips are perfect for those who prefer a relaxing fishing experience without venturing too far from land.

Nearshore Fishing: For those looking for a bit more trip, nearshore fishing charters take you slightly further out to sea. This opens up opportunities to catch larger fish, such as Spanish mackerel and cobia. Nearshore trips provide a balance between the calm of inshore fishing and the thrill of offshore excursions.

Both Charleston Fishing Charters and Sea Breeze Charters provide all the necessary gear for your trip. This includes rods, reels, tackle, and bait, so you won’t need to worry about bringing your own equipment. The captains’ local knowledge is invaluable, as they know the best spots to increase your chances of a successful catch.

Manager wouldn’t return money to my credit card despite having the same card and rewards number (no receipt), so gift card only. I was told “I’d have to look it up in the computer, it’s tedious”After talking to other customers, I learned it’s routine to return with same credit card or rewards account.
