The History and Legacy of Milwaukee Power Tools in the USA

When it comes to trusted brands in tools, few names carry as much weight as Milwaukee Power Tools USA. But how did Milwaukee become a household name? It all began nearly a century ago in America’s industrial heartland— Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In 1924, A.F. Siebert founded the Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation with a clear mission: to make rugged and reliable tools that could handle the toughest professional jobs. This passion for durability and innovation wasn’t merely a slogan; it was rooted deeply in the company’s Wisconsin heritage and commitment to genuine American craftsmanship.

Milwaukee’s very first breakthrough actually came even earlier, in 1918, with an invention called the Hole-Shooter. This compact, lightweight drill weighed just five pounds—a significant improvement compared to the heavy two-handed drills workers previously had to lug around. Professionals loved it, and it quickly set the standard for portable, ergonomic power tools.

From these humble beginnings, Milwaukee steadily built its reputation around tools designed specifically with the user’s needs in mind. Throughout the decades, the company’s dedication to quality never wavered, even as Milwaukee expanded globally. Today, Milwaukee tools are recognized worldwide for their toughness, reliability, and high performance.

“It all starts with the user.”

This simple yet powerful idea has guided Milwaukee from day one. Milwaukee engineers don’t just design tools from behind a desk—they spend countless hours on job sites, shoulder-to-shoulder with real professionals. By observing and listening to tradespeople, Milwaukee consistently delivers solutions that truly address everyday work challenges.

One Milwaukee representative sums it up nicely: “We don’t just assume we know what users need. We earn the right to serve them by being in the trenches, observing their daily challenges, and developing solutions that make their work safer and more productive.”

This hands-on, user-centric approach is exactly why Milwaukee power tools USA remains a trusted partner for professionals across so many trades.

How Milwaukee Became a Leading Power Tool Brand in America

Milwaukee didn’t become an industry leader overnight. Instead, it rose to prominence through a series of thoughtful innovations, each one aimed at making tough jobs easier and safer for workers.

The company’s journey began back in 1918 with the Hole-Shooter, kicking off Milwaukee’s legacy of practical, groundbreaking tools.

In 1924, A.F. Siebert formally established Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation, turning innovation into a permanent operation in Wisconsin.

Then, in 1951, Milwaukee introduced another game-changer: the Sawzall reciprocating saw. This tool was so and popular that many tradespeople today still call any reciprocating saw a “Sawzall,” no matter who makes it.

Milwaukee didn’t stop there. In 1991, they upgraded their original Sawzall with the Super Sawzall, adding a counterbalance that made it significantly smoother and easier to handle. Workers could now get jobs done faster, with less fatigue.

In 2005, Milwaukee led the industry again by pioneering lithium-ion battery technology. These batteries delivered much longer runtimes, more power, and greater longevity compared to older models, completely changing cordless tool performance.

Search Lowcountry Ace

Building on that success, Milwaukee introduced their FUEL technology in 2012, combining brushless motors, smart electronics, and lithium-ion batteries. This created cordless tools powerful enough to replace traditional corded models on the toughest jobsites.

More recently, Milwaukee tackled another common challenge—organization and tool storage—with the innovative PACKOUT system in 2017. This modular, stackable solution helps professionals easily store, transport, and protect their equipment, no matter the jobsite conditions.

Finally, in 2022, Milwaukee reaffirmed its commitment to American manufacturing by bringing production of many of its hand tools back to the United States. This move created jobs, supported local economies, and underscored Milwaukee’s dedication to quality, domestic craftsmanship.

Every step along Milwaukee’s journey has centered around making tools that solve real-world problems for hardworking people like you. Here at Lowcountry Ace, we see how Milwaukee’s rich history and dedication to users have created legions of loyal fans among local contractors, tradespeople, and DIY-ers in Charleston, James Island, and Folly Beach.

While Milwaukee power tools USA have proudly American roots, the production story has expanded beyond our borders over the years. Today, Milwaukee tools come from factories located around the globe, including China, Germany, Mexico, Vietnam, and—of course—right here in the United States.

But don’t worry, Milwaukee hasn’t forgotten its American heritage. Quite the opposite! The company continues to invest heavily in its U.S. operations, maintaining strong ties to its birthplace in Wisconsin. In fact, just in 2022, Milwaukee invested an impressive $206 million into research and development right here in America, underscoring their commitment to homegrown innovation.

It’s true Milwaukee Tool was purchased in 2005 by Techtronic Industries (TTI), a company based in Hong Kong. But Milwaukee remains deeply American at heart. Key Milwaukee Manufacturing Locations in the United States

When it comes to American manufacturing, Milwaukee has several important locations mostly concentrated in their home state of Wisconsin. At the heart of their U.S. operation is the Brookfield, Wisconsin headquarters, where a 212,000-square-foot facility acts as the central hub for their corporate activities and significant R&D efforts.

Nearby, the company’s West Bend, Wisconsin manufacturing facility spans 95,000 square feet, producing key components and tools to support Milwaukee’s American-made lineup.

Outside Wisconsin, Milwaukee recently expanded operations in Greenwood, Mississippi, significantly boosting their U.S. production abilities and providing hundreds of new American jobs. This expansion highlights Milwaukee’s ongoing investment in the power of American manufacturing.

Back in Wisconsin, Milwaukee continues to invest heavily in its Research and Development Campus. This R&D facility ensures that innovative designs and cutting-edge technologies are developed right here on domestic soil, reinforcing Milwaukee’s commitment to American innovation.

Together, these facilities not only produce great products but also positively impact local economies. Currently, Milwaukee employs around 5,500 people in the U.S., many working directly at these key locations. The helpful team at Lowcountry Ace often points out that Milwaukee’s continued investment in American manufacturing is a big reason why customers trust this iconic brand.

Though not every Milwaukee tool is manufactured here in the States, the company’s robust American presence and commitment to superior quality ensures that the essence of Milwaukee power tools USA remains authentically American.

Top Milwaukee Power Tool Systems for Professionals

milwaukee m18 fuel tools - milwaukee power tools usa

Professional tradespeople rely on tools that can handle tough conditions every day. Milwaukee understands this and has created three outstanding cordless battery systems that deliver exactly what pros need. With robust performance, durability, and innovative technology, these systems have become essential for contractors all across the USA.

The heart of Milwaukee’s cordless power tools lies in their battery systems. Milwaukee was a pioneer in lithium-ion battery technology, changing tool performance by dramatically increasing power and runtime. Today, Milwaukee offers three main cordless platforms: the M18™ system, the compact M12™ system, and the powerful MX FUEL™ system.

The M18™ System is Milwaukee’s mainstay for professionals, offering compatibility with over 290 tools. This makes it the largest professional cordless tool lineup available today. The 18-volt tools in this system give pros the power they need for heavy-duty tasks, from construction and automotive repair to plumbing and electrical work.

Search Lowcountry Ace

For lighter duty or precision work, Milwaukee designed the M12™ System, a smaller, lighter, 12-volt platform with more than 115 available tools. Compact and versatile, these tools are perfect for tight spaces and specialized tasks that require control without sacrificing professional-quality performance.

Finally, the innovative MX FUEL™ System delivers power typically associated with gas-powered equipment—without the fumes, loud noise, or heavy vibration. This makes it ideal for heavy-duty outdoor and construction applications.

All three systems benefit from Milwaukee’s advanced technology:

  • POWERSTATE™ Brushless Motors that deliver stronger performance, longer runtime, and better durability than traditional motors.
  • REDLITHIUM™ Batteries that offer exceptional power, long-lasting performance, and tough job-site durability.
  • REDLINK PLUS™ Intelligence that protects your tools by managing communication between the battery, motor, and charger to prevent overheating or overloading.

At Lowcountry Ace, our helpful team frequently recommends these Milwaukee cordless systems to our professional customers around Charleston, especially tradespeople who appreciate reliable tools that perform consistently every day. Let’s take a closer look at each specific system and what makes them stand out.

The M18 FUEL System: Professional-Grade Performance

When your work demands top-of-the-line power and best reliability, Milwaukee’s M18 FUEL System is your best friend on the job site. Combining brushless POWERSTATE motors, advanced REDLITHIUM batteries, and REDLINK PLUS electronics, these tools deliver maximum performance and durability for heavy-duty use.

With over 290 tools that fit the same M18 battery, professionals save time and money. Imagine no longer needing multiple chargers or batteries cluttering up the truck or jobsite! You simply swap the same battery between tools, whether you’re drilling, sawing, fastening, or demolishing.

Professional favorites from the M18 FUEL lineup include the M18 FUEL 1/2″ High Torque Impact Wrench, which packs an impressive 1,400 ft-lbs of torque—ideal if you’re dealing with stubborn bolts on vehicles or heavy machinery. Carpenters and framers swear by the M18 FUEL 7-1/4″ Circular Saw for its corded-level cutting power and all-day performance, while masons and construction crews appreciate the strength and reduced vibration of the M18 FUEL 1″ SDS Plus Rotary Hammer for drilling into concrete and masonry.

And let’s not forget the iconic M18 FUEL SAWZALL Reciprocating Saw, delivering all the legendary cutting power of Milwaukee’s original Sawzall, but without the cord holding you back. Demolition teams and remodelers around Charleston often tell our helpful Lowcountry Ace team this is their go-to tool when tearing through tough materials fast.

The M18 FUEL lineup also features specialty tools for electricians, plumbers, and metalworkers—ensuring trade-specific tasks get done quickly and efficiently. Milwaukee confidently stands behind these tools with a solid 5-year limited warranty, which gives users peace of mind and protects their investment.

It’s easy to see why the M18 FUEL System has become a top choice for pros who depend on their tools to get work done right—especially in Charleston’s challenging conditions, from hot and humid summers to salty coastal air.

Search Lowcountry Ace

The M12 System: Compact Power for Specialized Tasks

Sometimes smaller really is better, especially if your work requires precision or you need to squeeze into tight spaces. Milwaukee designed the M12 System to provide professional-grade power in a compact, lightweight package—perfect for electricians, HVAC specialists, plumbers, and mechanics who regularly face cramped quarters.

The M12 System offers more than 115 different tools, making it the largest available sub-compact tool platform. Each tool is carefully engineered for minimum weight and maximum control, reducing fatigue during extended use. That’s a big deal when you’re working overhead, under cabinets, or inside tight corners all day.

Some of the standout M12 tools our customers at Lowcountry Ace highly recommend include the M12 FUEL 1/4″ Hex Impact Driver, packing an impressive 1,300 in-lbs of torque into a tiny, easy-to-handle form factor. The one-handed M12 FUEL HACKZALL Reciprocating Saw provides quick, controlled cutting in cramped plumbing and electrical spaces, while the versatile M12 FUEL Installation Drill/Driver features four interchangeable heads (drill, offset, right angle, and hex) that cabinet installers and finish carpenters absolutely love.

Milwaukee also designs unique tools specifically for trade professionals, like their popular M12 Cordless Copper Tubing Cutter, a big favorite among plumbers for its clean, quick cutting action.

Many Charleston-area professionals choose to combine M12 and M18 systems, each for tasks where they excel. It’s common for our customers—whether professionals or DIY enthusiasts—to start with one M18 combo kit for tougher jobs, then add a few M12 tools for lighter tasks or hard-to-reach spaces.

If you’re tackling smaller home projects and prefer tools that fit neatly into your hand (and your budget), the M12 line offers professional quality that’s easy to use. This makes Milwaukee’s compact M12 lineup a fantastic choice for DIY enthusiasts here in James Island or Folly Beach who appreciate convenience but still expect reliable, pro-level results.

Whether you’re an electrician working in tight corners, a mechanic handling intricate repairs, or a homeowner looking for precision tools that won’t weigh you down, the M12 system delivers compact power and performance you can count on—day after day.

milwaukee tools for diy projects - milwaukee power tools usa

Milwaukee has built its name serving professional tradespeople, but here’s the best-kept secret—they’re fantastic for DIY homeowners too! If you’re tackling home repairs, upgrades, or outdoor projects around Charleston, milwaukee power tools usa offer professional quality designed for everyday users.

At Lowcountry Ace, our helpful team loves recommending Milwaukee to local DIY enthusiasts. Why? Milwaukee tools give you reliable performance and durability, perfect for our coastal climate here on James Island and Folly Beach. Instead of buying new tools every few years, you get equipment that’ll last decades—even with regular weekend use.

Search Lowcountry Ace

Another big advantage is Milwaukee’s cordless system. Pick a platform like the M18 or M12, and you can slowly grow your tool collection while using the same battery and charger. Not only does this save money, but it makes organizing your garage or workshop a breeze.

These tools are also incredibly user-friendly. Milwaukee focuses on ergonomic comfort, so even if you’re not used to working with power tools all day, you’ll find them easy to handle. Features like rubberized grips and balanced designs help you feel confident and comfortable while you work.

Let’s explore some of our favorite essential Milwaukee tools for DIY projects around the home.

Essential Milwaukee Tools for DIY Enthusiasts

Whether you’re a seasoned weekend warrior or a first-time homeowner building out your toolbox, here are the Milwaukee essentials we recommend to customers every day at Lowcountry Ace.

M18 Drill/Driver and Impact Driver Combo Kit: If there’s one Milwaukee set every homeowner needs, it’s this one. The drill/driver tackles everyday tasks like hanging shelves, assembling furniture, and drilling pilot holes with ease. The impact driver steps in for tougher jobs—driving deck screws, tightening bolts, and more. Together, they cover nearly all your home repair and improvement needs, making them the perfect starter set.

Just last weekend, one of our James Island regulars told us, “I’ve had my Milwaukee M18 combo kit for five years now. I’ve built decks, fixed fences, installed ceiling fans—you name it—and the battery still lasts forever.”

M18 FUEL Circular Saw: Want pro-level cutting power without wrestling a tangled cord? This cordless circular saw cuts plywood, framing lumber, or decking boards like butter. The brushless motor and REDLITHIUM batteries give you plenty of power and runtime. If you have renovation projects or woodworking plans on your radar, you can’t beat this cordless saw.

M18 HACKZALL Reciprocating Saw: Our helpful team at Lowcountry Ace often calls this tool “the smaller cousin of the Sawzall.” It’s compact, cordless, and perfectly sized for homeowners. From pruning branches in the backyard to quickly cutting through old pipes or drywall, the HACKZALL gives you versatility without the weight of a full-size saw.

M12 FUEL Oscillating Multi-Tool: This nifty tool is like the Swiss Army Knife of power tools. It’s perfect for detailed home improvement jobs—like making precise drywall cuts for outlet boxes, trimming door jambs while installing flooring, or sanding tight corners. Its compact size and precision control make tricky tasks easy even for beginners.

M18 Random Orbital Sander: If refinishing furniture, smoothing walls before painting, or restoring your deck is in your future, you’ll appreciate this cordless sander. It delivers a smooth, swirl-free finish without dragging around a dust-collecting vacuum hose or worrying about extension cords. Your projects will look professional-grade in no time.

Milwaukee Outdoor Power Equipment for Home Maintenance

Charleston homeowners know that maintaining a beautiful yard means staying on top of seasonal chores. Milwaukee’s cordless outdoor tools take the hassle out of yard work—no gas to mix, no noisy engines, and no smell. You’ll appreciate them even more when you’re working in our salty sea air down at Folly Beach, which tends to corrode gas-powered equipment quickly.

Take Milwaukee’s M18 FUEL Chainsaw, for example. It’s powerful enough to handle serious yard cleanup after storms but quiet and easy enough for everyday trimming. One customer on James Island told us they used it extensively after Hurricane Ian—remarking how it started instantly every time, no pulling a cord needed.

Another homeowner favorite is the M18 Hedge Trimmer. With a sharp, 24-inch blade, it’s perfect for shaping your hedges and keeping shrubs neat. Its lightweight, balanced design reduces fatigue, even if your yard is packed with bushes.

The M18 FUEL Blower is another star. It clears leaves, grass clippings, or sand from walkways and patios easily—without the deafening roar of gas-powered leaf blowers. Your ears (and neighbors) will thank you!

For keeping your lawn edges tidy, Milwaukee’s M18 FUEL String Trimmer offers cordless convenience without sacrificing power. Adjust the cutting width to balance runtime or performance—perfect for every yard size.

If mowing is your least favorite chore, the M18 FUEL 21-inch Self-Propelled Lawn Mower might change your mind. With dual battery power, it tackles yards up to ¼ acre with zero emissions and instant push-button start (no more yanking yet another starter cord!).

Finally, Milwaukee’s M18 SWITCH TANK Backpack Sprayer makes applying fertilizer, pesticides, or weed control treatments easy. You can swap tanks without cross-contamination—a smart solution for South Carolina’s persistent lawn and garden pests.

The helpful team at Lowcountry Ace has watched interest in Milwaukee’s outdoor equipment grow steadily, especially once homeowners realize their power tool batteries work with outdoor equipment too. Having a single set of batteries for all your tools saves money, storage space, and headaches.

Milwaukee’s Innovative Storage and Accessory Solutions

milwaukee packout system - milwaukee power tools usa

When you’ve invested in great tools, like your trusted milwaukee power tools usa, it makes sense to protect them. Milwaukee understands this well and has created storage and accessory solutions every bit as innovative and rugged as their power tools. Whether you’re a professional tradesperson or a DIY enthusiast here in Charleston, these solutions keep your tools organized, protected, and ready whenever you need them.

The PACKOUT System: Revolutionary Tool Organization

Ever wasted time searching for a lost tool or struggled to lug heavy equipment across a jobsite? Milwaukee’s PACKOUT system solves these common problems with clever design, tough materials, and best versatility. Introduced in 2017, PACKOUT quickly became a favorite for professionals and homeowners looking for a smarter way to organize their gear.

At the heart of the PACKOUT system is its modular, stackable design. Think of it like LEGO bricks—but for toolboxes. Each piece clicks securely into place, allowing you to customize your storage setup exactly how you need it, job by job.

The rolling tool box serves as the sturdy foundation of many PACKOUT setups. It features heavy-duty 9-inch wheels that roll smoothly across uneven ground (perfect for those tricky job sites around James Island and Folly Beach). With a strong handle and a hefty 250-pound capacity, moving your tools around becomes a breeze.

The PACKOUT system also includes a range of tool boxes available in multiple sizes. They’re built tough, with impact-resistant polymers, metal-reinforced corners, and IP65 weather sealing. Translation? Your tools stay safe and dry—even in Charleston’s humid, salty coastal air.

For smaller items that tend to scatter all over the place, PACKOUT organizers come to the rescue. Clear lids and customizable dividers make it easy to see what’s inside and keep your screws, nails, and bits exactly where you need them—no more fishing around in the bottom of your bag.

Need a place for hand tools, gloves, tape measures, and other loose gear? PACKOUT totes and bags fit seamlessly into the system. They attach easily to your stack and feature reinforced bases, ensuring durability and protection wherever your projects take you.

Milwaukee continues to expand the PACKOUT family with some pretty cool specialty storage options. They’ve even added a PACKOUT compact refrigerator (yes, a fridge!) so you can enjoy a cold drink after tackling yard work at home or completing a hot summer day on a construction site.

The helpful team at Lowcountry Ace frequently recommends PACKOUT for local customers working in marine construction and restoration projects along Charleston’s coastline. Salt spray, moisture, and humid weather are tough on tools, but PACKOUT’s weather-resistant design helps keep everything protected.

Search Lowcountry Ace

Homeowners also find PACKOUT ideal for organizing their garages, workshops, and sheds. Its modular flexibility allows for easy expansion as your tool collection grows. So instead of a jumbled mess, you get neat, organized, and protected tools ready at a moment’s notice.

Milwaukee Accessories That Improve Tool Performance

Great power tools deserve equally impressive accessories. Milwaukee knows even the best tools need high-quality accessories to deliver their full potential. That’s why they’ve spent so much time developing accessories that boost performance, durability, and productivity.

Take Milwaukee’s SHOCKWAVE Impact Duty Bits and Drivers, for example. They’re specially made to handle the intense torque of impact drivers, featuring custom alloy steel and tips that prevent stripping and slipping. These bits absorb impact shock, lasting up to 30 times longer than regular bits. That’s fewer broken bits and fewer interruptions when you’re in the middle of a project.

Then there are Milwaukee’s legendary SAWZALL blades. Available in various materials and tooth designs, these blades tackle all kinds of cutting jobs—from heavy-duty demolition to precise cuts in wood or metal. Their bi-metal construction and advanced teeth stay sharper longer, so you can keep cutting efficiently without constant blade changes.

Ever been halfway through cutting a neat hole only to have the saw teeth break off on hidden nails? Milwaukee’s HOLE DOZER Hole Saws solve this frustration. They feature a “Rip Guard” tooth design that helps prevent tooth loss even when cutting through nails. Plus, the clever Plug Jack system makes removing cut materials simple, keeping your workflow smooth and hassle-free.

And for those tough materials—like stainless steel, cast iron, or cement board—Milwaukee’s TORCH Carbide Cutting Tools offer unbeatable durability. Carbide-tipped blades stay sharp up to 50 times longer than typical blades, saving you time, money, and a lot of frustration.

Woodworkers around Charleston love Milwaukee’s NITRUS CARBIDE Router Bits. Their ultra-sharp carbide edges deliver cleaner cuts and last longer than regular carbide bits. A customer from James Island recently told us, “I hesitated because of the price, but these router bits have saved me money in the long run—and my projects look better, too.”

At Lowcountry Ace, our helpful team often advises customers to pair their Milwaukee tools with genuine Milwaukee accessories. While cheaper alternatives exist, Milwaukee accessories consistently outperform them, providing greater value over time. Investing in quality accessories can make your projects quicker, easier, and far more enjoyable.

Whether you’re outfitting a professional job site or your own garage, Milwaukee’s innovative storage and accessory solutions prove the brand understands what real-world users need. Manager wouldn’t return money to my credit card despite having the same card and rewards number (no receipt), so gift card only. I was told “I’d have to look it up in the computer, it’s tedious”After talking to other customers, I learned it’s routine to return with same credit card or rewards account.

This location is the best. They are attentive and professional and always aim to please. We ordered a grill from them which was delivered quickly. There was a slight defect and they immediately rectified the situation and went above and beyond on multiple aspects of the transaction. Everyone from the GM to the delivery guys and everyone in between are always so great. We will continue to give them our business 💯!
